Il connettore SFF-8643 è un'interfaccia compatta ad alta densità per dispositivi SAS e SATA. Supporta fino a 4 coppie di segnali differenziali (corsie), consentendo più percorsi dati all'interno di un singolo connettore. È ideale per applicazioni ad alta larghezza di banda come il collegamento di espansori SAS, controller RAID o dischi rigidi SAS/SATA e SSD.
Il cavo è valutato per una velocità di trasferimento dati di 12 Gbps per corsia, che si traduce in una larghezza di banda aggregata totale di 48 Gbps (12 Gbps × 4 corsie) sull'intero cavo. Questa elevata capacità di elaborazione garantisce un trasferimento dati efficiente per applicazioni di archiviazione esigenti che richiedono tempi di accesso rapidi e grandi volumi di dati.
Il cavo misura 0,3 m (0,9 piedi), il che lo rende una soluzione di interconnessione a corto raggio adatta per connessioni di prossimità all'interno di un rack, chassis o server. I cavi più corti generalmente presentano una migliore qualità del segnale e una latenza inferiore rispetto a quelli più lunghi, soprattutto a velocità di trasmissione dati più elevate.
L'impedenza specificata di 100 Ohm è una caratteristica elettrica critica che garantisce la corretta integrità del segnale e riduce al minimo la perdita o la distorsione del segnale lungo la lunghezza del cavo.
